“Life is worth living’: Veteran relaunches business after prostate cancer battle
RAY CITY, Ga. (WALB) – A South Georgia veteran with serious illnesses – including cancer – hopes to turn his health challenges into inspiration.
After starting their business in 2017, the Camon’s like many small business owners were impacted by Covid-19 in more ways than one.
Carl Camon said, “It was a little difficult time. After we lost all of that product during Covid then we decided to start back again.”
Then, Carl, a disabled veteran, received a life-changing diagnosis this year. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
In 2023, the American Cancer Society estimated over 280,000 new cases of prostate cancer and Black men are roughly 37% of those being diagnosed.
Carl feels his diagnosis is an opportunity to help others live healthy.
“Because we have a good product, and we really believe that. We have a really good healthy alternative to seasonings,” he said.
Angela Camon, Carl’s wife, said, “Of course I’m going to be bias. I like all of them, but the original is probably my favorite because it goes on a lot of things.”
She says that while her husband was battling multiple illnesses over the last few years, her faith is what kept their spirits up.
“Well it was a journey, but we have enjoyed doing it together and just making it a successful business opportunity for our family and generations to come,” she said.
The Camon’s completed their seasoning collection, allowing them to get back online and in stores.
Carl said, “We’re back and we hope that we can connect with some distributors that will at least give us an opportunity to present and taste the product.”
Now, the couple has a message to share with those going through a similar battle.
“To encourage them not to give up because life is worth living,” Carl said.
GameTime will be back in local stores in 2025. You can learn more about the seasonings here or contact them directly to purchase by emailing gametimeseasoning@gmail.com or by calling (229) 237-1222.
