LIVE: Louisville Sports Commission announcing 2024 Class of Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – The Louisville Sports Commission is announcing the 2024 Class of the Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame at Churchill Downs.

Gov. Andy Beshear is there as well for the ceremony on Champions Day for Derby Week.

Moments ago, Beshear honored Ansel Williamson at Churchill Downs. Williamson was a formerly enslaved Black horse trainer who trained Aristides, winner of the first Kentucky Derby in 1875.

Beshear was joined by Ed Brown Society and Churchill Downs officials to honor the lives of Williamson and other Black horsemen who contributed so much to the sport.
