Local bodybuilder to represent Team USA at the World Championship in Tokyo, Japan

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – While maintaining a happy and healthy lifestyle, Courtney Spaeth and her husband Tony, share Courtney’s journey.

About how she went from a devastating knee injury to bodybuilding, now representing the United States in a bodybuilding competition this December in Tokyo.

Just seven and a half years ago, Courtney Spaeth suffered a knee injury.

Courtney is a gym owner in downtown Eau Claire, bodybuilding trainer and posing coach.

“That resulted in total reconstruction of my knee. So then knowing as a therapist by trade what I need to do to get my strength and mobility back up so that I was having longevity of my leg, we started into bodybuilding” Courtney said.

It’s been quite the rewarding journey as she’s won over 25 natural pro championships.

“I’ve always been a person that has always seen the glass half full, versus half empty. So i changed my mindset of what ‘can’ I do not what ‘can’t’ I do” Courtney said.

She adds another title to her name, being a wife to her husband Tony.

Tony Spaeth helps run Fitness Freedom in downtown Eau Claire, and is thrilled Courtney was chosen for the Tokyo championship.

“I’m the proudest husband i think you’ll ever find. I can’t believe how amazing this whole journey has been. It started seven and a half years ago with ‘I’m gonna do one show” Tony said.

Back in August, Courtney won her qualification competition for the Tokyo championship. And she has more competitions until she hits the Tokyo stage.

“You had to be selected by Team USA as well as the International Elite IFBB federation” Courtney said.

To help make this happen, thankfully she has Tony to ‘chef it up’ and help her maintain the proper diet needed to stay in shape.

“It is a team effort. She figures out what she needs in a meal plan macro wise, and then I go in and figure out what meals to make. Different flavor profiles to keep her satisfied, cause chicken, broccoli and rice would’ve gotten her there but she would’ve hated doing it.” Tony said.

Both Courtney and Tony shared what representing Team USA in the competition coming up really means to them.

“I’m extremely honored that they picked Courtney to compete in Japan.” Tony said.

“It’s obviously an incredible honor, and something I never thought I would get to this point to doing.” Courtney said.

The competition is the week of December 17.
