Local business County Smoak eases Thanksgiving stress for families with full holiday meals
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — To say it’s been a busy day at County Smoak would be an understatement.
For the fifth year, the small Lynchburg business is taking on Thanksgiving.
This year, they’ve had more than 250 orders, which gives the owners a lot to be thankful for themselves.
“We are a small little shack, so to put out this much food in assembly line fashion has been a blessing,” said Ken Hess, the owner of County Smoak.
For $175 folks are taking home a full pre-made meal for eight.
Each box is filled with smoked turkey breast, mac and cheese, whipped roasted garlic potatoes, roasted Brussels sprouts, a cranberry dish, rolls, stuffing, gravy and a pie.
“Some lady said, ‘You know what? I didn’t get up at 4 o’clock this morning to cook my turkey, so you’re saving me,'” Hess said.

All of the food is made in-house.
“It’s probably one of the best I’ve ever had, and for the money it’s better than I could ever do. Going to the grocery store, it’s expensive to get all this and that and the next thing. And this all comes together, it’s easy,” said Carol Bowers, a County Smoak customer.
Plus, it saves the customers hours of time, giving them more time to spend with their families.
“We love spending time together and like, my mom and my brother come from Pennsylvania, and the more time we spend together, just laughing – playing and talking, it’s wonderful!” Sarah Donahoo, another customer said.
Hess said he’s thankful he gets to be a part of so many people’s Thanksgiving holiday.
“To have Lynchburg and Amherst and the surrounding counties believe in our cooking enough to spend their hard-earned money and put our food on their table, even if it’s just one component of your table, it makes us proud,” Hess said.
