Local business owner collecting supplies to send to Hurricane Helene victims

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WBAY) – A local business owner is collecting supplies to send to Hurricane Helene victims.

The owner of Burkel’s One Block Over, Kevin Burkel, says he started taking donations Sunday.

On Monday, a semi has now arrived. Burkel is hoping to fill it and more after that!

Burkel lived in Florida for a couple of years. He says the area he lived in is destroyed. He knew he wanted to help so he started making calls, connecting with Wel’s Transportation to get a semi.

He says he hopes to fill this one and more to continue to send aid to people down south, especially since Hurricane Milton is expecting to make landfall in Florida this Wednesday evening, likely increasing the need for help in the already struggling area.

Burkel says Green Bay is known for helping neighbors near and far adding that donating anything can really help make a big difference.

“I know Green Bay is a small town but we’re really resilient when it comes time to helping out. You know the problem is things are tight right now for everybody, so it’s rough on people, so if you can donate a case of water, $5, or whatever, $1, 50 cents, it doesn’t matter, it adds up and it goes somewhere,” said Burkel.

Burkel says folks can drop off donations at Burkel’s One Block Over during business hours. They’re open until 2 a.m.
