Local business owners call Small Business Saturday a success

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Small Business Saturday is the first Saturday after Thanksgiving every year where consumers are encouraged to shop locally for the holidays.

The initiative started in 2010 by the American Express. Many small business owners are looking to make an impact in their community.

Jim Damschroder is the owner of The Buckeye Store and More, which thrived on Small Business Saturday before the game between Ohio State and Michigan.

“People like to support their local businesses. Today was very busy this morning and everybody always gets excited for the game. Ohio State and Michigan game is the biggest rivalry of the year it’s the biggest rivalry in all of sports.” Damschroder said.

Other businesses like Huron Street Studios offered deals on the day, including hosting ornament workshops to bring the community together.

“I think people get excited knowing that something is made locally and also their is just really is no comparison to a mass produced object. You can really see and feel the maker in every object that we make. Toledo is the Glass City and we are down here carrying on that legacy,” business manager Catherine Clements said.

The next opportunity for great deals for northwest Ohioans is Cyber Monday for online shoppers.
