Local coffee business to expand in midtown

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -For Sky Jones, the idea of opening her own business was difficult already, but what happened in May of 2024 made things that much more difficult.

“A car accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake,” she explained. “I was here when it happened.”

The car crashed through the wall of Haven on Earth Bakery in south Reno, the place where Jones has been operating her business Rising For People Coffee. The crash made the process of expanding that business very challenging.

“We are still actively getting over it,” she said regarding the crash. Saying they almost went out of business because of it.

However, thanks to a crowdfunding campaign, Jones says they have been able to secure enough funding to leave Haven on Earth and relocate to Vesta St in midtown.

“There is a new development from Marriott properties,” she said. “We are right under it.”

Jones says they are far from the run of the mill coffee shop

“We vertically source our business from small family-owned farms,” she explained. “They do it all by hand. That is mostly what separates us because they are getting things directly from farm.”

Jones says the goal is to get up and running in midtown in January.
