Local inline speed skaters to represent USA in World Championships

WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Two local inline speed skaters are preparing for a new milestone in their athletic careers.

Sadna Ganesan and Jaelyn Godin will represent Team USA at the World Championships this September in Italy.

Both girls train at Interskate 91 South in Wilbraham, the only competitive inline speed skating rink in all of New England. As members of one of the top teams in the country, their training consists of 20 hours a week.

22News spoke to the skaters during their practice Wednesday and they told us the job is not done yet but they’re looking forward to a long-awaited dream.

“I’ve been skating every day, with only one rest day a week, and trying to skate twice a day,” said Sadna.

“This is my first time going, It’s more just the experience cause it’s in Italy,” said Jaelyn. “You go with your friends, but when you’re there it’s serious. You’re racing, you’re representing USA.”

The girls’ coach shared with 22News that their drive and work ethic is what got them to where they are today. Whether it be training on city roads, before school, or in the rink, at the end of the day, they are committed to putting in the work win or loss.

The girls told 22News that they run 10 miles one way, and 10 miles back before school each day. 22News wishes them the best of luck as they prepare for Worlds!
