Local jobs numbers mixed
CHICO — The latest jobs numbers present a mixed picture for Butte County, with employment down from the previous month while up from the previous year.
The county shed 2,100 jobs from June to July, according to a report released Friday by the California Employment Development Department. However, the total of 79,500 jobs represented an increase of 2,400 from July 2023.
Government sector jobs composed the bulk of the losses. Four other sectors, none related to farming, gained slightly. The leading employment area remained private education and health services with 20,200 jobs.
EDD reported Butte County’s unemployment rate as 6.4%, higher than the statewide rate of 5.8% and ranked 18th-worst among California counties. Glenn County was at 7.1%, Tehama County at 6.9% and Colusa County at 10.8%.
