Local soap-making business goes viral on social media

FAIRLAWN, Va. (WDBJ) – In one of our hometowns, a small business owner is wowing customers from across America. Based in Fairlawn, E & N Soaps and More has gone viral on social media and now has a store front.

Small business owner Naomi Carter said her story started a couple years ago when meeting her now-husband for the first time.

“For one of our first dates he said, ‘You should come over and we should make some soap.’ And I’m like, ‘yeah, okay, of course,’” Naomi said.

And just like that, E & N Soaps and More was born.

Until September, Naomi crafted her soaps right from her home for folks in the Fairlawn area.

Everything changed with a little help from social media. With nearly five million viewers tuning in, you might have spotted her videos on Facebook.

“So, it’s just kind of grew from there. Also, other videos of mine have taken off too. So, it was kind of a lot of buzz with that one, I got an influx of sales. As I released new products, people were really interested in those, and it just has really grown and grown from there,” Naomi said.

Thanks to all those viewers, Naomi moved into her very own storefront and broke records for sales.

“Last month, we did three times, honestly more like four times what we would normally do in a month as well as we shipped out over 100 orders, which is insane,” Naomi said.

Those orders are making their way across the U.S.

“Just from the viral video, we were able to ship to Nebraska, Montana, Wyoming, Washington State, Connecticut, states that we’ve never actually been able to get before,” Naomi said.

At E & N, you can find 100% vegan bath and body care, all handmade. But it’s not just about the products for her.

“I try and build a relationship with my clients,” Naomi said. “I recognize you when you come in the door or come up to our booth at a show. I am good at remembering what people like as well.”

You can find the storefront at the corner of Velley Center and River Course Drive. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday afternoons.
