Nearly 6,400 jobs will be available this week at a Dallas employment fair.
Roughly 150 employers will be on hand for the annual “Hiring Red, White & You,” hosted by Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas, the Texas Workforce Commission, the Texas Medical Center and the Texas Veterans Commission. The fair is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gilley’s Dallas, 1135 Botham Jean Blvd.
First-in-line access will be given to veterans, transitioning service members, military spouses, members of the National Guard and Reserve and their family members, but the public is invited and encouraged to attend, according to a news release from Dallas County.
Jobs include full-time, part-time and seasonal options. The median pay is $35 an hour, with some jobs paying up to $60 an hour.
Open positions are in logistics, education, health care, transportation, manufacturing and hospitality, among others. Employers include DART, Dallas College, Dallas County, city of Dallas, Canadian Solar and Austin Road & Bridge. Many of the companies have an immediate need for employees due to industry demands, according to the release.
In a statement, Dallas County Judge Clay Lewis Jenkins said those stuck in a “dead-end low-wage” job should consider attending the fair.
“There are likely employers hiring for your same position but paying higher wages and offering better benefits,” he said.
Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas operates eight centers in Dallas County and provides opportunities for job training, workplace education, child care and educational initiatives. Funded by federal grants and private money, it is one of the largest nonprofits in Dallas.
