October 27, 2024

Held in Hollywood, at the newly renovated W Hollywood, the third edition of Los Angeles Fashion Week produced by N4XT Experiences will be held this year over three days from November 13 to 15, a shorter format than the one proposed in 2023.

Rio Uribe will show its new label Rio World – Rio World

Themed around fashion, innovation, technology, sustainability and inclusion, this new edition will feature sxi runway shows featured with presentations, several exhibitions, screenings and panels.

Among the highlights of Los Angeles Fashion Week, the Blue Jacket Show will be on stage on Wednesday, November 13. Founded by fashion designer Frederick Anderson, along with Laura Miller, this event which supports prostate cancer awareness, has already hosted eight annual fashion shows in New York City. For its first appearance on the West Coast, the event will feature artists and models in blue jackets.

Also on the calendar is a show organized the same evening by Rio Uribe, and his new brand Rio World. Known for his commitment to inclusive fashion and body diversity through his former brand Gipsy Sport, the designer returns this year with a new label name, following several criticisms denouncing the racist nature of the word “gipsy”, referring to the ethnic minority describing the Roma people. The show will be followed by a party in partnership with Galore magazine.

Ed Hardy will show on November 14th at LAFW – Ed Hardy

Los Angeles Fashion Week regulars, twin brothers Bruce and Glen Proctor and their label BruceGlen, will present their Spring 2025 ‘Out of the Blue’ collection on Thursday, November 14. The same day will also see the show of New York-based genderless label Private Policy, founded by creative directors Haoran Li and Siying Qu, both from China and graduates of Parsons School of Design.

Scheduled for the evening of November 14, the Ed Hardy show will mark the return of the brand founded by French designer Christian Audigier in the early 2000s. Iconic, the brand that once had over 70 stores worldwide, and totalled over $700 million in sales in 2009, was bought out in 2011 by tattoo artist Ed Hardy in a joint venture with Iconix Brand Management Group which produces Jay Z’s Rocawear, ZooYork, Joe Boxer, and Candies. Since 2020, Kevin Christiana, a former Project Runway contestant, has taken on the role of creative director of Hardy’s brand.

Closing fashion week on Friday November 15, the show by New York label The Blonds will present their latest collection of decadent, very Hollywood luxury. The Vivienne Westwood show, once rumored, will not take place.

House of Aama will present its last collection at LAFW – House of Aama

Other brands on the fashion week calendar in the presentation format include Tribute Brand, a digital fashion company founded in 2020 in Croatia, designer Sergio Hudson, the emerging Canadian brand Borden created by Eugene Marshall, already presented at the last New York Fashion Week, and Lost Daze, an American luxury and streetwear brand run by a collective of designers.

Two other brands making direct reference to African culture in fashion, notably Head of State (HOS), founded by Taofeek Abijako, which will showcase its representation of postcolonial youth culture today. House of Aama, founded by mother and daughter duo Rebecca Henry and Akua Shabaka, explores the folkways of the Black experience by designing timeless garments with nostalgic references informed by historical research, archival analysis and storytelling.

The event will also feature a number of screenings, including a documentary devoted to costume designer Bob Mackie, best known for his sequined gowns and for dressing the singer Cher throughout her career. Another screening will be dedicated to legendary fashion photographer Bill Cunningham, followed by a signing of ‘The Battle of Versailles’, a book recounting the historic gala held at Versailles in 1973, bringing together French and American fashion designers. The event marked the emergence of ready-to-wear and international fashion.

Lost Daze, a Californian fashion collective – DR

Finally, designer Christian Siriano, whose ‘People Are People’ exhibition has just ended in Memphis, will also be on hand for a book signing on Friday, November 15.

Nike, the main sponsor of this new edition of LAFW, will also be holding a number of events, including morning workouts and DIY workshops. Last but not least, Theophilio, Tombogo, The Blonds, Rio World and Maisie Wilen brands will be hosting several parties.
