‘Real Women’

It’s Hispanic Heritage Month, and Red Magnolia Theatre Company is celebrating by presenting a live staged reading of “Real Women Have Curves” on Thursday, Sept. 26 at Pelican to Mars, 2678 Government St., Baton Rouge. 

The production will feature five fierce Latina actors telling the story of a first-generation Mexican-American girl who wants to go away to college, which conflicts with the views of her parents who think she should stay at home and provide for the family.

‘The Cake’

Tickets are on sale for Theatre Baton Rouge’s production of “The Cake,” opening Sept. 20, at the theater, 7155 Florida Blvd. Tickets are $43 for adults and $38 for children, students and seniors.

Art Guild exhibit

The Art Guild of Louisiana’s “Autumn Judged Show” runs through Nov. 14 at Independence Park Theatre, 7800 Independence Park Blvd. There will be a reception from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 13, when the winners of the exhibit will be announced.

Live from Laurel Canyon

Tickets are on sale for “Live From Laurel Canyon — Songs & Stories of American Folk Rock,” a 90-minute journey through one of the most influential periods in American music history, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17, at the Manship Theatre in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St.

Applications sought

The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge is accepting applications for the 2025 Everett G. Powers Fund for Creativity Award, established by the former Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge CEO in celebration of its 50th anniversary. The grant, which seeks to inspire innovation through the creative process, is offered annually to support new projects focusing on creativity and artistic excellence. individuals and organizations in the Capital Region.

Applicants don’t have to be an artist or arts organization, and the new project must take place between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2025. Application deadline is Oct. 18. For more information, visit artsbr.org.

Call for submissions

The Hammond Regional Arts Center, 217 E. Thomas St., Hammond, is inviting community members to celebrate creativity in the palm of their hand with the cellphone photography exhibition “#Snap.”

“#Snap” will be displayed in the Mezzanine Gallery Oct. 4-31 with an opening reception at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4. Its purpose is to encourage participants to explore the world around them through the lens of their camera phones.

At Cité des Arts

Tickets are on sale for the “Roaring ’20s: An American in Paris Maureen’s Dream Fund Soirée” to raise funds for Maureen’s Dream Fund from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at Cité des Arts, 109 Vine St., at The John Nickerson House, 310 N. Sterling St. The fund is being established at the Community Foundation of Acadiana to secure the legacy of Cité des Arts’ founder, Dr. Maureen Brennan.

Tickets are $75 per person, and 1920s costumes are encouraged. Music will be provided by the Dave Mouton Experience. There also will be food and a silent auction.
