Louisville, Lexington rank in top 50 in new US News & World Report’s Best Places to Live list
150 years of fashion at the Kentucky Derby from 1875 to today
In honor of the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby, here’s a look back at four period-specific Kentucky Derby outfits women wore over the years.
Two Kentucky cities are among the top 50 in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Places to Live list for 2024.
The outlet released its 150 Best Places to Live in the U.S. list, which ranks 150 major cities based on quality of life, job markets and other criteria. Louisville made the list at No. 42 this year, trailing behind Lexington, which ranked No. 15.
Both cities outranked its neighboring metro cities like Indianapolis, which ranked No. 66; Cincinnati, which ranked No. 100; Nashville, which ranked No. 50; and St. Louis, which ranked No. 114.
The Derby City earned an overall score of 6.5 out of 10 this year. The outlet noted Louisville’s location on the Ohio River, its modern metropolitan area steeped with tradition, and of course, the Kentucky Derby Festival.
The report also noted Louisville’s cost of living ranking below the national average and that home prices are below the national median sale price.

The Horse Capital of the World received an overall score of 6.6 out of 10 this year with the outlet noting how Lexington “blends influences from South and Midwest to create a unique cultural identity.” It also mentions how the University of Kentucky plays a vital role in the city’s constant success by attracting young, educated people into the culture and economy.
