Lubbock business news includes wine, pools, closures
Hello A-J readers!
The last week of the month always tends to be the busiest for business news. This week, we had a notable downtown business announce its final day, a nearby town saw its historic pool renovated and we got a behind-the-scenes look at a local vineyard.
One of the most-read business articles from the week came from the closing announcement of Burklee Hill Vineyards, 1109 Broadway. The upscale restaurant had been a draw for downtown crowds for four years prior to its closing on June 1.
While the physical location closed, the winery will continue its online presence at burkleehillvineyards.com “for some time into the future,” according to the announcement.

On a happier note, the community of Spur saw a promise completed on Memorial Day. Spur’s Swenson Park Pool, which was built on land donated by Erick P. Swenson of Spur Ranch in 1936, reopened Monday after a 15-year hiatus.
The pool’s renovation was initially promised by Argo Blockchain in 2021 as they built Helios, a bitcoin mining facility in Dickens County. The facility was completed in May 2022, but was soon sold in December 2022 to Canada-based Galaxy Digital Holdings. The new owners upheld Argo’s promise, and the pool’s reopening had 167 people attend.

Rounding out the week, we had a feature on Bingham Family Farms and Bingham Family Vineyards. Cliff Bingham explained how his family was among the first homesteaders around Meadow, and their journey into farming over the generations. And, of course, we had to talk about the 22 varieties of grapes and how they became a top Texas wine business.
Going into next week, I’ll be speaking with a local franchisee of my favorite place to get chili cheese fries. May has ended as well, so keep an eye out for the monthly business roundup.
