Lufthansa City Airlines, the newest member of the Lufthansa Group, is set to begin its journey on June 26, 2024. The inaugural flight, VL2508, will depart from Munich at 9:10 a.m., heading to Birmingham aboard an Airbus A320neo. Passengers can anticipate a seamless Lufthansa experience, featuring the latest in aircraft technology and comfort for short and medium-haul routes.
“Lufthansa City Airlines is aiming to successfully establish itself in the European short- and medium-haul segment from Munich and Frankfurt. This is a major investment in the future that will strengthen Germany as an aviation location and create numerous attractive jobs,” said Jens Fehlinger, Chief Operating Officer of Lufthansa City Airlines.
Lufthansa City Airlines’ routes have been bookable since April via the familiar Lufthansa Group sales channels, featuring the new airline code “VL”. The initial aircraft will commence flights to Birmingham, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Hanover, and Bremen. Starting July 27, the second aircraft, an Airbus A319, will join the fleet, serving Bordeaux, Hamburg, and Berlin.
With plans for fleet expansion, Lufthansa City Airlines aims to add more European destinations to its network gradually. After introducing the first five Airbus A320 family aircraft, the fleet will grow with at least eight additional A320neos and more A319s next year. In 2026, the airline will start receiving 40 brand-new, fuel-efficient Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
