M Den Twelve Oaks Mall location to close in preparation for the retailer’s sale

M Den, the official retailer for the University of Michigan, has closed its Twelve Oaks Mall location in preparation for the sale of the company, according to a post on X.

“With very heavy hearts, effective immediately, The M Den at 12 Oaks Mall in Novi is now closed in the anticipation of the sale of our company,” the business said on X Thursday afternoon. “All staff at this location have been notified of this closure and were offered positions at our remaining M Den locations or transitional pay.”

The company said it would have “no further comment at this time.”

MLive reported earlier Thursday that the university intends to have Legends Global Merchandise operate under the M Den name.  Legends aspires “to be the premier retail and merchandising company in the world,” according to its website. In an email to The Detroit News, Legends declined to comment.

University spokesperson David Ablauf said Thursday the school does not “have anything to share regarding a new retailer partner. We look forward to sharing the news once it has been finalized.”

The announcement comes after M Den faced financial issues this year, with suppliers saying the company owes them money.

The company still has four locations in Ann Arbor and one in Detroit, according to the business’ website.

Scott Hirth, owner of M Den, could not be reached for comment on Thursday.
