Major Company Abruptly Closes IE Facility, Over 400 Jobs Lost

ONTARIO, CA — Charter Communications is closing a call center in Ontario in a move that will eliminate over 400 jobs, according to a state filing.

The state received notice Wednesday that the center at 1260 S. Dupont Ave. would close, with the job losses effective Aug. 15, according to the Employment Development Department’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification report.

The facility’s operations will transition to other U.S.-based centers, according to Spectrum, the brand under which Charter Communications provides broadband and cable services.

“Our goal is to retain as much talent and experience as possible,” Dennis Johnson, senior director of west and northwest region communications for Spectrum, said in a prepared statement.

“Employees at our Ontario center may transfer with relocation benefits to other Spectrum customer service centers and are encouraged to apply for any open position within the company for which they are qualified. Employees who do not have a role with the company once the center closes will be entitled to comprehensive severance benefits.”

Charter Communications also recently closed facilities and laid off hundreds of workers across several other states, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and North Carolina, according to local media reports.
