Man, 86, dies after being struck by car near Niles shopping center: police
NILES, Ill. – An 86-year-old man has died after being struck by a car near the Golf Mills Shopping Center in Niles Sunday morning.
The incident happened at 8:38 a.m. at the intersection of Milwaukee and Maryland, just south of the shopping center.
Police said the pedestrian was crossing from West to East on Milwaukee when he was hit by a 2017 Toyota RAV4 that was driven by a 66-year-old man from Northbrook.
The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to Lutheran General Hospital, where he later died from his injuries at 9:05 a.m.
His identity hasn’t been released.
The crash led to a temporary shut down of the roadway and drivers were urged to find alternate routes.
It’s unknown if the driver will face any charges. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
