Man armed with knives shot by police outside Boulder Highway business
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A suspect was shot by officers Wednesday morning after threatening customers with knives outside a Boulder Highway business, police say.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the shooting took place around 4:41 a.m. in the 6400 block of Boulder Highway, near Russell Road.
Officers arrived at the scene in response to reports of a man with a knife outside a business, threatening customers, according to LVMPD Captain Kurt McKenzie.
Officers made contact with the suspect and observed him holding two knives while attempting to enter the business. The suspect ignored multiple verbal commands to drop his weapons. Less lethal methods were deployed to prevent his entry, which prompted the suspect to turn and charge at the officers.
Officers then fired at the suspect and struck him.
Life-saving measures were provided to the suspect before medical services arrived and transported him to a nearby hospital. Captain McKenzie confirmed the suspect was receiving treatment, though his condition remains unknown.
The identities of the officers involved in the shooting will be revealed following an internal investigation.
