Man arrested after threatening driver with knife outside north Colorado Springs business

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – A man is in custody after allegedly trying and failing to carjack a driver outside a business Saturday morning.

Police say the attempted theft happened in broad daylight in a parking lot in the 7700 block of North Academy. The business name has not been released but is located in a commercial area just south of Briargate Boulevard.

The victim told police the suspect had threatened him with a knife but didn’t get his car. When officers pulled up to the scene, the suspect was still in the area.

“The suspect, Daniel Fuqua, is in custody on a felony warrant,” a CSPD lieutenant said.

Jail records indicate Fuqua remains in the El Paso Criminal Justice Center Sunday morning without bond.

Police say the driver was also the victim in a similar crime late last month.

“The investigation is ongoing regarding the incident this morning, as well as one from May 29, 2024, involving the same victim/citizen,” the lieutenant said.
