Manhattan loses to Gardner-Edgerton in 6A State Championship in heartbreaking fashion

EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) – Manhattan High School loses to Gardner-Edgerton in the 6A state championship, 36-33, on a last-minute drive by the Trailblazers.

This game was a rematch from the 2022 6A state championship, which went in the Indians’ favor, 21-20, in overtime.

The game was back and forth most of the game, with each team scoring to answer the other’s score.

Manhattan went three and out and gave the ball back to the Trailblazers with a few minutes left in the 4th quarter, leading 33-28.

Gardner Edgerton scored a touchdown with 10 seconds left and got the 2-point try to take the lead 36-33.

The Indians had a last-second Hail Mary but couldn’t convert and falls 36-33 after trying to win its second title in three years.

Manhattan finished the 2024 season 12-1 and will look to bring a strong young core back for next season.
