MANITOWOC – This week in Manitowoc, you can attend a marathon, experience a World War I encampment, and mingle with alpacas and llamas.

1. Cheer on runners at the Maritime Marathon
The annual Froedtert HFM Maritime Marathon, Wisconsin’s premier East Coast marathon, takes place June 2.
This out-and-back course features amazing views of Lake Michigan’s shoreline as runners race from Manitowoc to Two Rivers. This flat, fast course is even a Boston Marathon qualifier!

2. Experience a World War I encampment
Head to Manitowoc County Historical Society June 1-2 to visit the camps of American, British, German, Russian and Ottoman nations and learn about their role in World War I.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, you can step into a display area focused on Manitowoc County during WWI, learn about relatives who served locally, and participate in various activities, including camp kitchens on the front, weaponry, the Red Cross and more.

3. Enjoy opening night of the Sub Pub on the Water
They hosted a sneak peek night Memorial Day weekend, but Sub Pub on the Water officially opens for the season May 30.
The Sub Pub, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum rooftop bar, will continue to operate every Thursday and Friday night from 5 to 10 p.m. throughout summer.
With the some of the best views in downtown, the Sub Pub is one of the best places to enjoy a drink and summer sunset with family and friends.
There are no admission fees or cover charges to access the Sub Pub. A family-friendly atmosphere, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are available for purchase.
While food isn’t served, you can take food or order delivery from area restaurants.

4. Attend the library’s Hmong Cultural Symposium
Manitowoc Public Library is hosting “A Hmong Cultural Symposium: An Exploration of Hmong-American Identity” from 5 to 7:45 p.m. May 30.
On the topic of Hmong refugee stories, the evening will feature panelists sharing their personal stories of hardship, happiness and community. A Q&A will follow the evening’s incredible stories.

Manitowoc history: ‘To fly, fight and die?’ This World War I flying ace was from Manitowoc and earned two Distinguished Flying Crosses.
5. Stop by LondonDairy Alpaca Ranch’s Alpaca Odyssey
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 2, LondonDairy Alpaca Ranch is hosting its annual Alpaca Odyssey event.
Rain or shine, attendees can celebrate the upcoming summer season and birth of new baby alpacas. Activities include shopping local farm and vendor booths, taking selfies with and feeding alpacas and llamas from Black Frog Farm, listening to South American music and sipping wines from the region, shopping the gift and wine store, and more!
Admission is one non-perishable food item or a $1 donation. All food and cash will support Two Rivers/Mishicot Ecumenical Food Pantry.
