Marcia Griffiths hails ‘special connection’ with Beres and Buju

Queen of Reggae Marcia Griffiths has hailed the Intimate Concert as a “special connection with Beres and Buju” and told The Gleaner that it was important for her to perform on the showcase alongside the two headliners.

“I don’t know if we knew each other in another life, but there’s some connection there that I cannot explain. And, there is a certain satisfaction and rejuvenation when I link with these brothers. There is something special about them and I look forward to always collaborating with them, whether it is in the recording studio or on stage,” Griffiths shared.

Referencing the phrase “many are called [but] few are chosen,” Griffiths said that Buju Banton and Beres Hammond were definitely among the chosen.

“I know that they are prophets sent by the Almighty God. I see myself as a missionary on a mission from God and I see [them] as part of my spiritual family.”

The veteran singer, who is celebrating 61 years in the music industry, delivered another outstanding performance on the Intimate stage at Plantation Cove in St Ann on Saturday night.

Looking regal, as usual, the queen thrilled the audience with selections from her enduring catalogue of hits and paid tribute to Bob Marley, with whom she was part of his trio of backing vocalists—the I-Threes.

Quizzed about her New Year’s resolutions, the I Shall Sing singer said she would “…continue to spread love and unity among my people”.

“I want to see a better world… I want to see a new Jamaica and whatever I can do to touch everyone … to contribute…whether through my music or verbally I give myself 100 per cent up to make a better Jamaica.”
