Mark your calendar: Here’s your guide to SouthCoast events happening in 2025
As we herald in the New Year, it’s a time to reflect on the past year and to set our sights towards a fun-filled 2025.
The SouthCoast is brimming with activities and events each month that have become time-honored traditions.Across the area, you can find occasions that center around decadent food, mesmerizing music, and festivities for all ages.
Get ready to fill your new 2025 with these events to look forward to in the new year.
January
Start the new year off with the annual “Moby-Dick” Marathon, every January is the 25-hour read-athon of Herman Melville’s literary masterpiece, “Moby-Dick.” The event features Herman Melville-inspired activities, opportunities to chat with the scholars from the Melville Society Cultural Project, kids crafts, and more.
May
Celebrating the power of the arts and culture, We HeART Fall River is fun for all ages. You can browse the Artisans Market, check out the food trucks, listen to live music and see the local art scene in May.
June
It wouldn’t feel like summer without the Coastal Wine, Cheese, & Chocolate Festival. In June, pair your wines with exquisite cheeses and artisanal chocolates from local vendors.
July
The Whaling City Festival transforms Buttonwood Park in July into festival grounds with carnival rides, food stands, games, a vendor market, and activities for the whole family. A perfect summer night is filled with the smells of carnival food and the laughter or screams of the rides.
You don’t want to miss Buzzards Bay Musicfest in July. This free concert series features a variety of musical genres. Performances feature renowned musicians and incredible sounds.
A SouthCoast staple, the Westport Fair is a celebration of rural life that offers something for everyone to enjoy. In July you can experience a schedule jam-packed with farm fun, food, and carnival rides.
NB Roots & Branches Fest is an unforgettable day in July of music, art, and community. It’s a unique experience that has music for everyone from folk to jazz to Cape Verdean dance music.
A free, family-friendly event featuring vintage and rare antique cars happens every July in New Bedford. Joe Jesus’ 50s Night has live music, food trucks, and vendors.
Feast-goers attend St. Michael’s Feast to enjoy three days full of tradition, Portuguese and American foods, games, and free live entertainment.
A July weekend of fun and festivities at Mattapoisett Harbor Days. The event is filled with vendors, entertainment, delicious food, raffles and more.
Celebrating Portuguese and American food, live music, fellowship, and more, the St. John of God Parish Feast happens in July. The days are filled with tasty bites, kids’ activities, prizes, and entertainment.
August
The much anticipated Feast of the Blessed Sacrament happens in August. With live music galore, traditional Madeiran Portuguese cuisine, and family-friendly activities this event is a must add to your calendar.
You can’t go the year without planning to head to the Great Feast of the Holy Ghost. In August, the largest Azorean Portuguese festa descends on the area in Fall River. The days are filled with performances, mouthwatering food, a Solemn Mass, crowning, and procession.
September
Westport Rock, Rhythm & Blues Festival is a September weekend full of amazing music and fun, all to benefit A Wish Come True. The event helps raise money for wishes while offering a fun family event.
Bring summer to an end with a bang in September while supporting the SouthCoast Community Foundation at Summer’s Last Blast. The night is brimming with indulgent foods, yummy cocktails, and live music.
Each September, chefs from around the area prepare dishes featuring fresh seafood and seasonal ingredients with dozens for you to try at the Seafood Soirée.
For a day of lively music, delightful food, crafts, and plenty of fun make sure to keep a lookout for the Fall Festa in September.
The Buttonwood Park Zoological Society raises money with its annual First Taste of Fall in September. You get to taste-test unlimited samples from local breweries and wineries and order delectable bites from food trucks at the 21 + event.
Showcasing local food, talent, small business, agriculture, and children’s activities, South Coast Harvest Festival is becoming a favorite September event.
October
A culinary adventure awaits as over 30 food trucks bring their signature dishes to pair with craft beers on tap to the New Bedford Food Truck & Craft Beer Festival. It’s an October day filled with brews, mouthwatering food, lawn games, and music.
In October the FABRIC Arts Festival is set to return. The festival celebrates Portuguese arts, culture, and the diverse local community. A variety of musicians will perform, food will be indulged, and art will be explored.
Help raise money for at-risk youth and education along the SouthCoast at Oktoberfest. There will be live entertainment food trucks and local vendors with delicious food and drinks.
Downtown New Bedford is transformed for a day of festivities for all ages at the FallFest. In October its all treats as local businesses give back to the community with activities, treats, and entertainment.
October is all about Musictown in Somerset. Taking place are the Musictown Festival, Musictown Ball, and the Musictown Parade. For over 50 years, the event has been celebrating the joy and power of music.
A time-honored tradition, the New Bedford Seaport Chowder Festival lets you try chowders from local restaurants and cast your vote for the best one. Sample chowders and soups, listen to live, and enjoy the community vibe in October.
November
While November can be a slow time for events, you don’t want to forget about Fall River’s annual Thanksmas Market and Holiday Celebration. Featuring dozens of vendors, food trucks with a variety of cuisines, as well as a line-up of live entertainment and family-friendly activities.
December
Bringing timeless holiday traditions for all ages, Fairhaven’s Olde Tyme Holiday Village brings magic to December. The streets are bustling with festive activities for kids, vendors galore, yummy cocktails, and sensational dessert trucks.
It’s a family tradition in December to watch the Children’s Holiday Parade in Fall River. It’s followed by the annual Tree Lighting Celebration. Filled with lively music, delightful food, fun, and games.
Experience the warmth and charm of this Padanaram transforms into a winter wonderland. Each December Padanaram Village’s Holiday Stroll is filled with holiday music, delicious treats, warm beverages, and local shopping.
Holiday In The Village has become a new favorite in Swansea. Each December, the area comes alive with food trucks, balloon animals, face painting, cookies, hot cocoa, games, and prizes.
The dNB Holiday Stroll in December is all about shopping at small businesses, eating local, and enjoying art, music, and holiday fun.
End the year off with the Downtown New Bedford Tree Lighting and Holiday Parade. Every year the city of New Bedford hosts its annual tree lighting and parade. With elected officials, high school marching bands, and Santa and Mrs. Claus the parade is sure to put you in the holiday spirit.
