Marley’s Music keeps record deals spinning heading into Small Business Saturday

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – Ahead of Small Business Saturday, one Biloxi record store is already facing an influx of customers. That’s because Black Friday in the music community is also known as Record Store Day.

“One of the cool things about independent record stores is every independent record store is unique in terms of what is actually in the store,” Marley Roberts said.

Roberts is the face of Marley’s Music. He and his father have been hard at work conducting the small business for nearly five years.

Record Store Day at Marley’s features exclusive releases available for customers and prices as low as 25 cents.

Music-lover Kimberly Jones often sifts through the boxes of vinyl looking for something specific.

“Oh, I love to come to Marley’s and specifically today I was looking for this artist, Melanie,” Jones says.

Roberts says regulars at the store don’t always have a fine-tuned shopping list.

“Some people come in looking for specific artists, some people just come in and poke around and just… ‘Oh, I didn’t realize I was looking for this.’”

Vinyl, cassettes, and CDs decorating the walls speak for themselves. Roberts says he has a couple thousand options for small business supporters to choose from.

“It’s one on one,” Jones explains.

“I can call Marley, I can call any of the record stores and say, ‘Hey I’m looking for this one artist.’ If someone’s going to come in and sell those records then they’ll keep me in mind and they’ll let me know, ‘Hey, they are here’, so I can come add to my collection.”

If you choose to support small businesses this Saturday, Roberts says there will be exclusive releases left over from Friday’s sale.

Marley’s can be found at 154 G E Ohr St in Biloxi. The store gets new items every day.

In March, Marley’s will celebrate five years of being in business.
