She is presently teaching as a professor of fashion at Santa Monica College, where she has been an integral part of the community for over a decade.

Ms. Louis is an expert in fashion and costume design, fashion show and photo shoot production including decades of experience and added stylist to her credits in the latter years. Bringing a wealth of knowledge from the vibrant entertainment industry, where she honed her exceptional skills as a costume designer for stage, film, and television, she is presently teaching as a professor of fashion at Santa Monica College, where she has been an integral part of the community for over a decade. Since transitioning to full-time status in 2021, Ms. Louis strives to engage students with stimulating projects, fostering their growth and learning. She adeptly guides a diverse classroom of 18 to 35 students and is constantly seeking to create valuable internship opportunities for them.

In addition to her teaching role, Ms. Louis has been active in the industry as an esteemed producer and director of the SMC LA Mode Fashion Show since 2015. That same year, she established the Santa Monica College affiliation with the Barbara Fields Internship Program in the spring of 2015. Ms. Louis has been the owner, custom fashion designer, costume designer and stylist for La Tanya Nicole Martine. Moreover, she has been a fashion show producer and director since 1993.

Ms. Louis’ career journey is marked by significant roles highlighting her versatility and dedication to the fashion industry. In education, she served as a lecturer at California State University in Long Beach in 2019. She also held a faculty appointment as an adjunct professor at Woodbury University between 2016 and 2017 and at Beverly Hills Design Institute from 2016 to 2020. Earlier, Ms. Louis was an adjunct fashion professor at American InterContinental University between 2003 and 2009.

Beyond academia, Ms. Louis held various positions in her field. She was the fashion director for Fella Magazine from 2012 to 2013. She also had multiple roles at Authentic Apparel Group between 2011 and 2012, including executive assistant to the chief executive officer and private label shipping coordinator. Additionally, Ms. Louis worked as a business manager and executive assistant to the president of the Max Rave division at BCBG MAXAZRIA from 2007 to 2011. Her earlier years included roles in the areas of apparel production and running her own specialty boutique and custom fashion designing service called Aristocrats, dating back to 1994.

Ms. Louis’s extensive educational background has significantly contributed to her success. She completed coursework in fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles in 1988 before acquiring a Bachelor of Arts in fashion design in 1992 and a Master of Business Administration in international business in 2001 from American InterContinental University in Los Angeles. Ms. Louis also garnered a Master of Fine Arts in fashion from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 2018.

Active in her professional community, Ms. Louis is a member of the Black Design Collective, reflecting her commitment to industry-related organizations and continuous professional development.

One of Ms. Louis’s most memorable career highlights was costume designing for a stage production in 2018, which further fueled her creative spirit and passion for her art. Besides her successful costume design endeavors, she’s very proud of her thesis project where she developed a sustainable luxury women’s clothing line focused on exquisite cashmere pieces which she purposes to put in the market soon. This bold move exemplifies Ms. Louis’s entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to creating exceptional, high-quality apparel.

With unwavering enthusiasm, Ms. Louis remains dedicated to advancing her career as a professor. Her goal is to proactively stay at the forefront of technological developments and further refine her expertise. She is also driven by a solid aspiration to author at least two impactful books and establish an organization to mentor the younger generation, empowering them to make informed sartorial choices in the face of pervasive media influence. Furthermore, Ms. Louis is working toward launching clothing lines, with at least two distinct brands.
