Martin Lawrence Responds After Fans Express Concern Over His Health
Martin Lawrence is attempting to allay fans’ fears. The 59-year-old actor was a guest on the Erbo in the Morning radio show on Monday, and responded to concerns about his health.
“I’m fine. I’m in God’s hands. I’m blessed. I’m glad to be waking up every day and everything. No need for people to be concerned,” Lawrence said, before quipping, “And I’m healthy as hell! Stop, stop, stop the rumors!”
Chatter about Lawrence’s health began to circulate last month when the actor and his Bad Boys: Ride or Die co-star, Will Smith, attended the film’s Los Angeles premiere. In a viral clip from the event, Smith appeared to help Lawrence stand as they addressed the crowd, with the latter actor looking around in what appeared to be a confused manner.
On the radio show, Lawrence said his bewildered expression in the clip was due to the size of the crowd.
“I was like, ‘Oh, this is rock concert stuff. What the hell is going on? For a movie?'” he said. “I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, man.'”
Lawrence has faced health issues in the past. Back in 1996, Lawrence made headlines for walking into a busy Los Angeles intersection, a loaded handgun in his pocket, screaming, “Fight the power,” The Washington Post reported. Doctors later said he was suffering from exhaustion and dehydration, according to the outlet.
Three years later, Lawrence slipped into a coma after experiencing heat exhaustion following a jog, The Los Angeles Times reported.
Flash forward to present day, and Lawrence is busy promoting his newest movie. When ET spoke to the actor, who plays Marcus Burnett in the Bad Boys franchise, at the latest film’s premiere, he expressed his gratitude for the support he’s received.
“That’s nothing but love, man,” Lawrence told ET at the premiere, for which he was joined by his ex-wife, Shamicka Gibbs, their two daughters — Iyanna Lawrence, 23, and Amara Lawrence, 21 — as well as daughter Jasmine Page Lawrence, 28, from his previous marriage to Patricia Southall.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Eric Dane, Ioan Gruffudd Joe Pantoliano and Rhea Seehorn, will hit theaters on June 7.
