Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection players claim to be refunding the game after being destroyed by champion Justin Wong online

Though it likely boils down to a growing meme at this point for matchmaking issues and getting washed by pros

After a decade away, players can finally experience the original Marvel vs. Capcom games officially again, leading many to get their hands on the classics for the first time — and receive an immediate wakeup call to just how unforgiving they can be.

With the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection launching earlier this week, there’s a growing number of players claiming to have refunded the game on PC after facing off against the greatest MvC champion online.

If you look at the official Steam store page and social media right now, you’ll find quite a few people saying they’ve asked for a refund or left more ominous comments like:

“Beware the Wazzler.”

For those who aren’t aware, Wazzler is the handle the legendary Justin Wong is using in the MvC collection, and he’s been putting in a lot of time grinding to hit the number one rank across not only PC but PlayStation too now.

“Don’t play for years. Buy the collection. Load into ranked. Fight Justin Wong. Refund. 10/10 would buy again,” reads one of the many Steam reviews that mention him.

Wong is one of the most decorated players in fighting game community history with 6 Evo wins under his belt for just Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (and technically 7 if you count Battle by the Bay in 2001).

Unless you’re maybe one of five people in the world, you are not going to beat him in Marvel, but clearly most of these reviews are not being serious about quitting and refunding the collection — at least not because they got destroyed by the champ.

Most of the public reviews you can find saying things like that either haven’t actually taken their money back or are over the time limit to receive a refund.

Instead, this seems to be a growing meme among the player base to either rate the game highly for the fact that they can get their butt kicked by the likes of Justin Wong in a new MvC release and / or to point to a different issue entirely.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and the like can be relentless for beginners with their infinite combos, advanced movement techniques and decades of advancements to try and overcome if they were to face someone more experienced, but those newcomers shouldn’t be stuck in matches where they’re essentially helpless to fight back.

While the Wazzler himself isn’t the issue, players have been complaining about online connectivity problems since the MvC collection released.

This has led to long wait times to find games, an inability to join friends or others in private lobbies, or get stuck fighting players well outside of their skill level — like Bronze ranked users getting paired up against Wong.

Pretty much all of the Steam reviews we see that have actually refunded the product state they’re doing so because of the matchmaking issues though there is at least one exception to that.

Capcom has come out and said that they’re aware of the problems and working on a solution, but there’s no time table yet as to when an update will be released.

Overall, the critical reception to the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection has featured mostly glowing reviews, but clearly, online issues are going to hinder the typical user more harshly now that the game is in the wild.

So here’s hoping Capcom puts together a fix quickly now.

And if you are looking to get better at these hyper fighters, Justin Wong actually made a tutorial to help players improve at Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in short order.

But even then, you still won’t defeat the Wazzler.
