Mason Moore will start Game Two of College World Series for Kentucky
Right-hander Mason Moore will start Game Two of the Men’s College World Series for Kentucky on Monday against Texas A&M.
Moore allowed no hits and one earned run in 3 1/3 innings in Kentucky’s 3-2 Super Regional victory over Oregon State last weekend. His control issues continue to be worrisome however, as he walked six batters.
In five career NCAA Tournament appearances, Moore has allowed just 10 hits and one earned run with 22 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings pitched (0.39 ERA). They don’t call him “Big Game MaMo” for no reason.
“The commitment and the growth that he has shown and how much better he’s gotten,” Nick Mingione said about Moore following Kentucky’s Regional win over Indiana State. “I mean, he has the clutch gene. You guys know that. And to have a guy from Kentucky do this two years in a row, two years in a row — to have somebody from his state school that bleeds blue. He and his family have been awesome.”
Moore’s scoreless NCAA Tournament innings streak, which reached 23 1/3 innings, was snapped in that Super Regional game against Oregon State. Moore walked home a run on a bases loaded walk.
No Wildcat reliever threw more than 30 pitches on Saturday, so all relievers should be a go on Monday. Right-hander Robert Hogan, who threw just 12 pitches against NC State on Saturday, would be pitching against his former team if he throws on Monday.
Kentucky’s second MCWS game against Texas A&M will begin at 6:00 p.m. CT/7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
