May begins in fine fashion
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -The month of April has earned quite a two-faced reputation. The first half of the month was so wet that it looked like the Charleston-Kanawha Valley region would end with one of the wettest April’s on record. Then came the second half of the month that was so parched that the ground started cracking in the intense dryness. Remarkably, the lack of rain has set up fine for farmers and gardeners who have been able to get some good field work including plowing and tilling.
Now Tuesday’s rains did deposit a healthy half inch of water across parts of Southern Ohio, Eastern Kentucky and Western WV. There were no flooding issues to be had as stream levels parked out at abnormally low values for spring. Now as rains move away overnight, areas of fog will form and slow the morning commute on Wednesday.
Wednesday through Friday will sport lots of hot sunshine as highs aim for the 80s. All three days look dry. But by Friday night into Saturday, showers and thunderstorms return to the forecast. That means outdoor activities on Saturday including outdoor Derby parties will need to be on shower and thunder alert. Our job the next few days will be to identify when and where the weekend showers fall hardest and longest. Highs over the weekend will stay seasonally warm in the 75-80 degree range.
