Mayor O’Connell outlines transit plan to Sports Authority

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell spoke to the Metro Sports Authority on Thursday about his proposed transportation plan.

The “Choose How You Move” program includes adding new sidewalks, bus services and more security for WeGo Transit.

The mayor said it would also upgrade two-thirds of the city’s traffic signals. He said that will help with traffic when fans are leaving sporting events.

“They will be able to respond to that traffic and after a Nashville SC game, after a Preds game, after a Titans game, be able to get those crowds back home, and get employees where they’re trying to get to as well,” O’Connell explained.

The Metro City Council has to approve the proposal before it will be placed on the November ballot. The Council passed it on first reading earlier this week.

If approved, voters will then be asked to approve a half-penny sales tax increase that would be used to fund the transportation initiative.
