McNeese Cowboys travel to UL-Lafayette for 100th meeting

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – The McNeese men’s basketball team is gearing up for their last game before they enter conference play, and it’s a big one against their rival down I-10, the UL-lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns. The Cajuns gave them everything they could handle last season as McNeese edged out a 74-72 win and this year the Pokes are expecting more of the same.

“I mean hopefully our guys are excited for every game but I think certainly there will be a little extra juice on Sunday for both teams. Last year it was pretty heated but I think there will be a little extra pop from both groups on Sunday for sure,” said Head Coach Will Wade.

The Cowboys have a record of 5-5 on the season and have had their share of ups and downs with a rigorous non-conference schedule but now they’re looking to put everything together against their in-state foe to set the tone for conference play.

“I mean we need to get over .500 before the conference and I think we need to establish ourselves on the road. The road in our league is going to be very unforgiving as most leagues are and so we need to establish that we’re going to be a tougher team on the road a tougher team away from home than we’ve been and that can start on Sunday,” said Wade.

This marks the 100th meeting between both teams with tip-off set for 2 pm this Sunday at the Cajun Dome.
