Meet Beyoncé’s cousin Angie Beyincé – and what’s the story behind her name?
Beyoncé and Solange’s older cousin Angela “Angie” Beyincé is an award-winning songwriter and actress who’s co-written hits for Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child. Most recently, she showed off her acting chops as a series regular on Tyler Perry’s comedy-drama series Sistas.
Beyincé plays the role of Pam, a sassy salon manager in the BET show. She is also its consultant producer behind the scenes.
So what do we know about Beyoncé’s incredibly talented cousin who’s behind many of the megastar’s superhit songs? Here’s the down low on Angie Beyincé.
Why is Beyoncé’s cousin named Angie Beyincé?
The striking similarity of Beyincé’s last name to her cousin’s famous mononym might have a few fans scratching their heads.
The “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer’s first name comes from her mother, Tina Knowles, who was born Celestine Beyoncé.
During a 2020 appearance on the Spotify podcast In My Head with Heather Thompson, mother Knowles revealed that because of a clerical error, everyone else other than her and her brother Skip spelled their last name as Beyincé.
Unfortunately, the family was unable to fix the discrepancy and were instead told “be happy that you’re getting a birth certificate”, as Black Americans didn’t often get birth certificates in those days, per USA Today.
