Meghan Markle and Other Royals Are Here for a Casual Hat Moment
When the occasion calls for fascinators or fancy headbands, Meghan Markle, Queen Mary of Denmark, and royals from around the world are always first to don them. But it turns out, these famous women even fancy themselves a casual hat moment for more subdued outings.
Case in point: During her 3-day visit to Colombia with Prince Harry earlier this month, Meghan made an appearance in a summery, all-white ensemble paired with a boater hat from Colombian designer, Hannia Char. Of course, it’s no secret Meghan loves a casual topper as she’s been spotted several times wearing styles from Cuyana and Janessa Leone over the years.
She’s not the only royal to sport a brimmed hat this month, either. Earlier this week, Queen Mary was also spotted wearing a fedora while on her summer tour of Danish municipalities. The Danish royal opted for a topper from Australian brand Canopy Bay, which she teamed with a white blouse, beige maxi skirt, and mesh Jimmy Choo heels. Prior to that, Queen Mary wore the hat a couple of other times at the Paris Olympics while cheering on Denmark during the equestrian finals.
Lady Louise Windsor, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh’s daughter, is also often photographed wearing casual hats, mostly at horse shows. In May, the young royal opted for a straw boater hat with an Hermès twilly.
While the opportunities to wear straw hats may be numbered with summer drawing to a close, several royals—particularly Kate Middleton, Sophie, and Princess Anne—often wear felt/wool options during the colder months. All of which to say, casual hats are clearly a year-round staple in the royals’ wardrobes and they should be yours too. Shop similar options below to get the royal-approved look.
