With Thanksgiving fast approaching, many people are preparing themselves for the chaos that comes with holiday travel.

The Transportation Security Administration said it expects 90,000 people to pass through the checkpoint at Memphis International Airport between Nov. 22 and Dec. 2.

Here is what to know for travel through Memphis International over Thanksgiving.

Busiest travel day for Thanksgiving holiday

TSA predicts that Memphis will have its busiest travel day on Friday, Nov. 22 with more than 10,000 people expected to pass through the checkpoint.

How early to get to the Memphis airport?

Memphis International Airport recommends getting to the airport a minimum of two hours prior to the departure time. The airport emphasizes this guideline for flights between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Tips for travel from TSA

It is suggested to check in online with airlines prior to arrival at the airport to save time. Travelers are also told to check in with the airline rather than the airport for flight schedules and information.

Some of the parking lots at MEM are likely to reach capacity during peak travel days, and additional signage will be placed to help drivers find additional parking.

A rule for those who may not have traveled in a while is that all carry on items must fit into one of the bins to go through the scanners when going through security. No items are allowed to be placed directly on the belt. Everything must fit in the bins which are 19.5 inches by 24.5 inches.
