MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Memphis Tourism will be celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) from May 19-25. The aim of the national celebration is to highlight travel’s impact on our economy and our community’s quality of life.
John Doyle, executive director of the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum, joins Action News 5′s Andrew Douglas at the Digital Desk to share why locals should check out the Bluff City’s top attractions during this week.
The greater Memphis area welcomed 15 million visitors with 5.9+ million hotel rooms sold in 2023. Memphis and Shelby County saw an economic impact of $4 billion in 2022. Each of these statistics indicate a promising outlook for the travel and tourism industry in our destination.
Additionally, Memphis Tourism’s Travel & Trade Sales reached 221,000+ room nights, resulting in an economic impact of $1.29 million in 2023. Convention Sales also successfully booked 88K+ future room nights in 2022.
NTTW marks the launch of Memphis Tourism’s “Be a Tourist in Your Hometown” campaign encouraging locals to explore the many attractions, shops, and restaurants that they have available right here at home (no plane ticket needed). Participating businesses will be promoting deals and special offers on the Memphis Travel website.
Customers can also check for deals at local businesses that have “Be a Tourist in Your Hometown” window decals with QR codes leading to their special deals and offers for the week. The campaign will begin during NTTW and continue year-round.
