Since being downed by Venezuela, 10-0, in its second game of the tournament, Mexico has rattled off wins over Canada (8-0) and Cuba (6-4) to stay alive in the consolation bracket. Venezuela opened consolation play with a 2-1 victory over Aruba after losing, 2-1, to Japan in a Monday game on the championship side. The winner of this one will play the loser of Wednesday’s international semifinal between Japan and Taiwan for a shot to play for the World Series Championship.
