Michigan State football, missing multiple starters, especially in the secondary, went into Champaign on Saturday needing a win, but they were stymied by Illinois in just about every way, losing 38 to 16 on the road.
This was a tale of two different games for MSU. In the first half, it was the Spartans’ defense that struggled, while the offense showed some life. That switched in the second half, when the offense struggled and couldn’t capitalize on some nice stops by the defense. It was not complimentary football and it was another ugly loss for MSU.
The one highlight for Michigan State today? No turnovers for Aidan Chiles despite some awful pass protection from his offensive line.
Michigan State will have a good chance to bounce back next week with a game against Purdue.
