Michigan’s Best Travel Deals: A rugged island, fudge anniversary, waterpark fun

I’m not sure our travel deals list could get any more summery this week. It has an Upper Peninsula island that doubles as a beach getaway, a waterpark and even some Mackinac Island fudge.

If your favorite part of summer vacation planning is figuring out what spot to explore next – and saving money on the trip – we’re here for you. Check out the deals we found this week.

Mackinac Island

#3 Original Murdick’s Fudge on Mackinac Island: When Robert Benser passed away this summer, part of his legacy was his longtime ownership of the Original Murdick’s Fudge shops. He bought the Mackinac Island brand in 1969 and expanded its reach. This weekend, Original Murdick’s Fudge is celebrating its 137th anniversary – and the legendary Mr. B – with some deals and free samples.

“In celebration of this landmark birthday, on Sunday, July 28, Original Murdick’s Fudge is serving up one of its most delicious flavors and notably Mr. Benser’s favorite flavor – Butter Pecan,” fudge shop staff said. “Butter Pecan Fudge is a ‘Rich ‘N’ Nutty’ fudge with the same type of texture and creaminess that you’d find in a good cheesecake. It gets the faintest amount of crunch from a healthy dose of pecans. Notes of brown butter and vanilla round out the bite.”

If you’re on Mackinac Island this Sunday, stop by one of the Original Murdick’s shops on Main Street for a free taste of fudge.

Want to place an online order for fudge? Visit the shop online and celebrate their anniversary with a flat $5 shipping rate on select orders from July 26-29.
