McCrady aces Worthington

Dave McCrady, from Parkersburg, recorded a hole-in-one Wednesday at Worthington Golf Club.

McCrady used a 3-wood from 157 yards on No. 11.

Witnessing the feat were Vernon Cowan, Rick Harkness and Bill Nicholson. It was McCrady’s second hole-in-one.

Summer Running for Jackson MS Cross Country

The summer running for Jackson Middle School cross country will be from 1-2:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays starting this Monday. Meet in the parking lot by the football field. Everyone, grade 6-8 boys and girls are welcome.

VETS4VETS Golf Tournament

The inaugural VETS4VETS golf tournament will be held at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start on Sunday, June 23 at Greenhills Country Club.

Cost is $75 per player in the four person best ball scramble with registration starting at 8:30 a.m..

Teams must have a minimum of a 50 handicap and only one team member can have a handicap of 10 or less.

There will be cash prizes for first, second and third place. Each person can purchase two mulligans for $10 and lunch will be provided.

Hole sponsorships are $100 and there will be prizes for long drive, closest to the pin and longest putt.

All proceeds benefit veterans and veteran families with lifts, chairs, ramps, stairlifts, power chairs and more in Jackson County and the surrounding areas.

Wirt County Sports HOF nominees sought

The second class for the Wirt County Sports Hall of Fame will be taking nominations until Friday, June 28.

Six inductees will be included for the 2024 class, but the criteria used for the first class requiring the nominees to be a native Wirt Countian no longer applies.

All 2024 nominees will be on a three-year automatic carryover list before they would need to be renominated to be eligible for voting consideration by the committee.

Anyone wishing to nominate a former player, coach or someone who served the community should send their name, their phone number, the nominees name, phone number and email, the nominees graduation year (note if not Wirt County) and reasons why they should be considered via email to myboonelane@yahoo.com.
