Midway student sews up fashion design honor

A Midway High School junior competed at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference this summer, ranking among the top 15 in the nation in the fashion construction competition.

Kalissa Davis sewed a matching top and pants set of blue floral cotton fabric. She presented the ensemble display to a panel of judges, along with marketing and strategic plans.

In the event, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America students create a garment or ensemble with new materials using techniques they have learned. Students then display the project, present written materials and give an oral presentation.

To qualify for the FCCLA national competition, held in Seattle in July, Davis placed third in regional competition and second at state.

“Kalissa now holds 15th place in the entire nation for the category of Fashion Construction,” Midway High School FCCLA sponsor and career and technical education teacher Katie Pruitt said in a Midway press release. “Her representation of Midway would make anyone proud!”
