Millennials defend wearing ‘classic’ ’50s outerwear — despite scorn from others: ‘A timeless piece’

Liking this item is practically in their genes.

As the leaves begin to change, millennial fashionistas are staunchly defending their love of jean jackets, a fashion statement popular since the 1950s.

When one woman on TikTok who goes by Birdie tried to suggest that her fellow millennial women should stop wearing blue jean jackets, begging them to “please hang them up,” many of her generation strongly disagreed.

TikTokker @starbirdb went viral with 1.3 million views when she tried to remind millennial women that they “have options” and said her generation should “retire” their denim coats.

Tens of thousands of people wrote in the comments to defend their beloved covering, insisting that blue jean jackets are a “classic,” “a timeless piece,” a “staple” and very “versatile.”

Up-to-date millennials also noted that other popular styles from their younger years — like peplum tops and neckties — have made a resurgence, meaning that even if they did ditch denim, it would just come back in style.

“Don’t worry, in a couple years Gen Z will be claiming Jean jackets as a cute new trend,” one replied.

Eventually, @starbirdb admitted that a majority in her comments seemed to be on the same page — except for her.

“Y’all reeeeally like your blue jean jacket,” Birdie conceded in a follow-up TikTok video.

Denim jackets have been a popular staple piece found in closets since the 1950s and won’t be hung away if millennials have anything to do with it.

The unisex covering has recently been spotted on an array of millennial icons and other style savants, including Alicia Keys, Martha Stewart, Demi Lovato and Kristen Bell.
