According to AAA, millions of people are expected to travel during the year-end holiday period, including a near-record number of Tennesseans and a record-high number of Americans.
From Saturday, Dec. 21 to New Year’s Day, officials predict 2.77 million Tennesseans will travel at least 50 miles from home, over 62,000 more than last year. However, this is also about 62,000 shy of the record high set in 2019.
On a national level, AAA projects 3 million more travelers than last year, with an estimated 119.35 million people traveling 50 miles or more this year. That would narrowly surpass the previous record set in 2019 by 64,000.
