Millions expected to travel as holidays wrap up

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – TSA says they expect Friday to have one of the highest passenger volumes over the holiday period.

AAA says 119 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles for the holidays.

1.5 million Kentuckians have already done so.

At Blue Grass Airport, travelers like Janice Mueller are going to see family. She’s heading to Phoenix with a stop in between.

“I know it probably won’t be the easiest travel day of the year, but it’s important to get with family [during] the holidays, so it’s worth it,” Mueller said.

Mueller says Lexington’s airport is tame today compared to bigger ones.

“Atlanta can be a zoo. Absolutely. But, you know, if you’re coming from [Lexington] you’re probably going to have to go to Atlanta,” Mueller said.

Christian and Ashley Williams are heading to Peru. They say they haven’t had to deal with too much of a rush.

“It’s been pretty smooth so far. We had no wait at the baggage line, so that’s been good. So hopefully that translates to the rest of the trip as well,” Christian Williams says.

Mueller has advice for other holiday travelers today.

“Try to book a flight where in case it’s delayed or canceled, there’s still a later one the same day. Just try to stay calm and keep your cool. You’ll get there eventually,” Mueller said.

TSA says the next day expected to have a high volume of passengers is this coming Monday.
