Minot local business wins Outstanding Small Business Award

MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – All American Trophy and Screen Printing came to Minot in the early 1980s and has been a one-stop shop for custom trophies, engraving and all types of clothing printing.

What started off as an idea more than 50 years ago has now become a lifestyle for owner Denise Larson.

Originally from Yucaipa, California, the idea started when her parents were track coaches and they struggled to get their athletes deserving awards.

“He [Larson’s father] went to a trade show and bought all his own equipment and starting doing this on the side,” said Larson.

Larson took over the business in the early 80s, right after high school. She spent her childhood hand-engraving custom orders with her parents.

“It was a challenge to win the trust of customers who had been with my parents for years,” said Larson.

Earlier this year, the shop won the Outstanding Small Business award from the Minot Area Chamber.

Sales associate Rebecca Ruzicka said it was well-deserved.

“We kind of just go about our business, so it’s nice to have others recognize the impact that a little shop like this can have in our community,” said Ruzicka.

With the cost of living increasing over the years, Larson said shirts and ink have tripled in price.

“Ink that we buy to print on the shirts, like a five-gallon bucket of red ink— used to get it for 200 bucks and now it’s $800,” said Larson.

Larson said she is proud to keep her business local.

“Being able to still be in business after all this time, especially when so many people are ordering online,” said Larson.

When asked about how she competes with online shops, Larson said doing honest and quality work is what keeps them going.

All American Trophy and Screen Printing shop is one of four recipients of the Impact Awards hosted by the Minot Area Chamber EDC in March.
