Minot North shuts out Dickinson

The Minot North boys soccer team hosted Dickinson in Western Dakota Association (WDA) action on Saturday afternoon, September 28, at Sentinels Stadium and claimed the 3-0 win

Minot North was on the scoreboard first when Emerson Ries fed the ball to Jayden Marshall at the six minute mark. The Sentinels held the 1-0 lead going into halftime.

The same pair attacked at the 30-minute mark of the second half with the same results and a 2-0 lead at that point. Two minutes later, Jace Hoaglund passed the ball to Teegan Dangel for the second score of the half and third score of the game.

Minot North had 12 shots in the first half and ten in the second half. Of those shots, three in the first half were shots on goal while five in the second half were. Minot goalies had seven saves in the net for the shutout.

Logan Ovitt is still the points leader in the WDA games at eight with six goals and two assists while Ries is at seven with three goals and four assists for the Sentinels.

In the net for Minot North, Griffin Wald has faced 116 shots on goal and saved 72 while Macklin Kelly has faced 95 shots and recorded 64 saves with two shutouts as well. Brantley Robinson has faced eight shots and saved four of those from the net.

The Sentinels travel to Bismarck Century on Tuesday, October 1, and then to Mandan-St. Mary’s on Thursday, October 3, for the final WDA regular season action.

Minot North (3-11-0, 4-13-0) are currently at eight in the WDA standings. Century (5-8-1, 5-8-1) sits at seven while Mandan-St. Mary’s (6-6-3, 6-6-3) holds the fifth slot.

As the regular season comes to a close, teams begin preparing for the 2024 North Dakota High School Activities Association Boys Soccer State Tournament. The state tournament will be played October 10-12 at Cushman Field located in Grand Forks.
