The Western Dakota Association (WDA) boys soccer season is on the downhill slope towards the end of regulation play with three weeks until post season play begins. The next two weeks will separate the cream from the non-cream teams.

Minot High 1, Mandan-St. Mary’s 1 (tie)

The team just a couple of steps ahead of the hosting Magicians in the standings made the trip to Minot High. The Mandan-St. Mary’s Braves were tested heavily by the local boys. Senior Samuel Echanis hit fellow senior Dylan Jackson with a pass to get the score on the board with only three minutes played.

The Magicians carried the 1-0 through the rest of the first half and well into the second half of play. Braves junior Caleb Meidinger took the ball unassisted off a corner kick to score with 19 minutes left to play in the game for the 1-1 score.

Minot High worked the ball more consistently with the Braves goalie keeping the game at the tie with six saves. Senior Grayden Wald held the net safe without facing shots outside of the corner kick goal.

With the tie, the Braves hold sole possession of third place in the WDA standings. Bismarck Century (4-7-0, 4-7-0) will be in Minot to face the Magicians (5-3-2, 7-3-2) today, September 19, at Minot High.

Bismarck Legacy 5, Minot North 1

The second team in the WDA standings, Bismarck Legacy, hosted the eighth team on the list as Minot North traveled south for WDA play on Tuesday, September 17, and played competitively against one of the tougher schools.

The Sabers scored three goals in the first half and two in the second. The Sentinels eighth grader Gavin Wald scored off a pass from sophomore Logan Ovitt with two minutes left to play in the game to demonstrate the ‘no quit’ attitude of the team.

Eighth grader Macklin Kelley had ten saves in the game for Minot North in goal. This was the eighth game that the Sabers allowed one or less goals in the game.

Minot North (1-20-0, 2-12-0) will host Williston (6-3-1, 6-3-1) today at the Sentinels Stadium.
