Minot wraps up home game run, travels for last games
The La Crosse Steam finished their four game stretch at Minot with the second game of their second doubleheader on Wednesday, August 1, at Corbett Field. Minot, playing as the Bombshells in honor of the military branches of service, took game three to start the evening with a 10-0 win only to have the Steam exact some revenge with a 1-0 victory over the hosting Bombshells.
Minot was 3-for-22 in the game. Sydney Farmer, Josie Buhr and Shannon Nelson had the three hits in an error free game by both teams. Kierra Fournier pitched four and one-third innings and allowed one run on five hits, walked three batters and tallied two strikeouts. Jackie Albrecht pitched two and two-third innings and allowed only two hits, walked two batters and recorded three strikeouts in relief.
La Crosse was 7-for-21 at the plate. Ashley Wolfe was 3-for-4 batting while Katie Beagle was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI as well. Sydney Schott pitched five innings and allowed three hits, walked three batters and recorded two strikeouts. MacKenzie Willis pitched two innings and had no runs, hits and walked no batters. She did tally five strikeouts in stellar relief.
Returning to their normal characters, the Honeybees will face the Night Mares in Madison for a doubleheader on Saturday, August 3, and move on to tackle the La Crosse Steam again on Sunday, August 4 on the road. The final game of the inaugural Northwoods League season will be at the Mankato Habaneros on Monday, August 5, to close out their first year of play.
Currently, the Habaneros are atop the standings at 28-10 with the final weekend of play looming. The Madison Night Mares are second with a 24-14 record. LaCrosse is in third place at 15-23 while Minot has an 8-29 record with the four games remaining.
Of all players, active and inactive, Sydney Farmer is the current leader of at bats with 115 and holds a .339 batting average. She has 39 hits with 11 doubles, four home runs and 29 RBIs while playing catcher for the team. She also has the record with 221 innings played with 125 putouts in that span.
While Minot has used eight pitchers over the season, the three with over 60 innings of play from the mound are Kierra Fournier at 65.2 innings, Jackie Albrecht at 64 innings and Jasmine Blizzard at 62.1 innings. All three can be seen in action going forward as Fournier and Blizzard play for Minot State University and Albrecht is a junior at the University of North Dakota as well.
