Mississippi Highway Patrol preparing for 2024 Christmas Holiday Travel Period
JACKSON, Miss. (WLOX) – The Mississippi Highway Patrol is set to kick off the 2024 Christmas Holiday Travel Period on Monday, December 23 at 6 a.m., wrapping up on December 26 at midnight.
State Troopers will be actively patrolling highways and interstates, fully committed to making sure those on the road reach their holiday destinations safely. Their efforts will focus on reducing speeding and enhancing road safety during the travel season.
During the 2023 Christmas Holiday Travel Period, MHP was called out to 144 crashes with one death and made 78 DUI arrests on state and federal highways.
“Please remember to always remain safe, vigilant, and alert when driving to protect yourself and others on the road during this holiday season,” Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell said. “As we gather with our family and friends, let’s take a moment to remember and thank those with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, all law enforcement agencies, and first responders who are working to keep us safe this Christmas.”
“With the Christmas season upon us, the Mississippi Highway Patrol encourages everyone to drive responsibly, ensuring a safe holiday filled with joy alongside family and friends,” MHP Lt. Colonel James Ivory said. “We are committed to enhancing public safety through the diligent enforcement of traffic laws alongside our local partners. Our primary goal is for everyone traveling on Mississippi roadways to reach their destination safely, allowing all to celebrate a Merry Christmas.”
